Star Fox review

This classic SNES title brings the heat with some awesome Ed vector graphics.

STORY: Emperor Andross is out to destroy planet Corneria. It’s up to Fox McCloud and his team of anamorphic allies to fly in and save the day in outer space!

GOOD:

  • First-of-its-kind true 3D graphics on SNES!

  • Simple, linear gameplay

  • Three starting routes to take with numerous planets to battle across

  • Tough but fair boss fights; bosses differ depending on starting routes

  • Fun music

SO-SO:

  • Controls

BAD:

  • Not much for graphics

  • Each route is short, clocking in at about an hour-long each

Star Fox is a short and sweet space blaster. For its time it was likely mind-blowing, but by today’s standards it really feels like nothing more than an old school tech demo. Still, I can appreciate it for what it is and was at in its prime.
