Reanimal review

This titillating survival/horror game tells the dark tail of two children racing through a dark, macabre, and dystopian world that is every bit as creepy as it is disturbing.

POSITIVE:

  • Interpretive story told almost entirely through its dark & sinister art style & set pieces

  • A game that will make you feel uncomfortable in the best ways possible

  • Precision controls and wholly fair difficulty

  • Puzzles & boss fights are well designed

  • Eerie soundtrack & sound effects bring the world to life

  • The perfect length (around 3-4 hours)

SO-SO:

  • Weapon aiming could be better

BAD:

  • I ran into some game-breaking bugs after the launch patch— I had to delete and reinstall the game then play it without the patch to continue

  • Quite buggy

  • Camera can be annoying during some points and doesn’t always follow your character

Overall, Reanimal is a deeply disturbing short game that can be easily finished in one sitting between other major titles. It’s a cerebral experience that goes where it wants and always ends with a surprise.
